Guidelines for the use of HANSA nord Flat Blocks and Flat Wall Panels
The following guidelines for the use of products are recommendations for the construction industry and building owners. Uses other than intended by Hansa nord are subject to the individual user's own responsibility. The intended uses by Hansa nord are for masonry construction with Flat Blocks beginning at the top edge of the building foundation or bottom slab. The guidelines for use of the products are divided into three steps.Step 1
Creation of a horizontal seal against ascending moisture as per DIN 18195.
After cleansing of the bottom slab or foundation, a commercially availabe slurry type seal coating is to be applied according to the manufacturer's instructions. Alternatively, conventional bituminized boards or an approved wall blocking strip in the mortar bed (mortar group III) may be used for horizontal sealing against moisture.
Step 2
The first row
A mortar bed (MG III) in which the first horizontal row of blocks is to be laid with the proper alignment is to be constructed on the horizontal moisture sealing. The cornerstones of the building are to be aligned with a levelling device or water level and connected with commercially available masonry cord. The blocks may then be aligned and laid in the mortar bed with the butt ends placed directly against each other.
Step 3
The second row
The HD thin bed mortar supplied is to be prepared to the proper consistency (i.e. the toothing of the trowel should be visible on the horizontal joint) by adding water and mixing with a hand mixer. Loose particles and dust are to be removed from the units. The thin-bed mortar is to be spread on the first row of blocks, covering the entire surface, with an appropriate trowel or mortaring tool. The thickness of the mortar layer should not exceed 2-3 mm. The HD flat blocks may now be aligned and layed in a horizonal row in the mortar bed. The flat blocks equipped with tongue and groove system are placed with the butt ends directly against each other and tapped tight with a rubber mallet. Mortaring of the cross joint is not necessary, an exception to this being fire protection walls and fire walls, fitted bricks and blocks without a tongue and groove system. (Follow architect's instructions).
The guidelines for the lapping of masonry are to be heeded, i.e. the cross-joints are to be offset at least 100 mm in relation to the row of blocks below. (Lap length = 0.4 x h)
Continue as described in step 3 above.
Note: Use fo the HD flat block mortar below 5x Celsius is not authorized. The masonry is always to be protected against moisture and frost.
